Jennifer

Jennifer sits on the sofa drinking coffee,
Jimmy junior plays with his Lego on the floor,
They’re discussing heartbreak on the tele,
Jennifer jumps at the bang on the door.
Is it going to be the man to repossess the tele,
Or a neighbour to complain about your wheely bin,
Is it going to be the postman with a parcel,
Why do you think it will be him?

Did you ever have a bad dream?
Did you ever wake up feeling blue?
Do you ever think about him?
Does he ever think of you?

Jennifer walks up and down the high street,
Invisible to all as she walks through town,
Pausing at the corner to comfort little Jimmy,
Fighting the temptation to look around.
Will you see the young man from the grocers,
Or a relative standing outside Mothercare,
Will you see a teacher from the nursery,
Why do you think you’ll see him there?

Did you ever have a bad dream?
Did you ever wake up feeling blue?
Do you ever think about him?
Does he ever think of you?

Jennifer closes the curtains on the evening,
Jimmy Junior’s in bed and she’s all alone,
The house seems so silent since he left,
Do you still dream he’ll be coming home?
Will he come back to bring you roses,
Or with papers to take little Jimmy away,
Will he come back to tell you that he’s sorry,
What would you want him to say?

Did you ever have a bad dream?
Did you ever wake up feeling blue?
Do you ever think about him?
Does he ever think of you?

Did you ever have a bad dream?
Did you ever wake up feeling blue?
Do you ever think about him?
Does he ever think of you?
