Valentino's

Joanie dances for money,
She’s trying not to miss a trick,
Because nobody cares anymore,
That little Tommy’s sick.
He got himself a fever,
And the doctor he won’t come,
Until Joanie’s got the money,
So she dances for her son.

What do you see
In the bottom of that glass,
Salvation, redemption,
Or echoes of the past?
Whatever your troubles,
There’s only one place to go,
Join our congregation,
Down at Valentino’s.

Danny picks up the bottle,
To drink his sorrows away,
His girl’s gone and left him,
And all his lady would say.
Is that she’s got another man,
Who says he’ll treat her right,
Something’s have to be better,
Because all we did was fight.

What do you see
In the bottom of that glass,
Salvation, redemption,
Or echoes of the past?
Whatever your troubles,
There’s only one place to go,
Join our congregation,
Down at Valentino’s.

Through the door walks the lady,
Who wants to leave but has to stay,
She’s got nowhere else to go,
Since the government took her job away.
The banks took back her home,
Her children now reside in care,
And when she returns home at night,
Her lover’s no longer there.

What do you see
In the bottom of that glass,
Salvation, redemption,
Or echoes of the past?
Whatever your troubles,
There’s only one place to go,
Join our congregation,
Down at Valentino’s.

No one asks you your story,
Because they’ve each got one of their own,
Telling of heartbreaks and failures,
Reasons why they’re all alone,
It’s just a place where the lonely go,
Somewhere to spend the night,
To forget they’ve got no one,
When they turn out the light.

What do you see
In the bottom of that glass,
Salvation, redemption,
Or echoes of the past?
Whatever your troubles,
There’s only one place to go,
Join our congregation,
Down at Valentino’s.
