Alison

You said you first met in June,
As the school year came to an end,
The boy at the back of the class,
Never seen without his friends,
The party up by the lake,
And you were skimming stones,
When he sat down beside you,
You felt like you’d come home

Alison he was your first,
You said he would be your last,
Alison does time heal the hurt,
Can you ever forget the past?
He hurt you he made you cry,
Are you sorry now that he’s gone?
They all come up and ask you why,
What do you say? Alison.

The weeks began to turn to months,
You thought it would last forever,
But as your teenage years rolled by,
You wondered should you be together.
You began to fear the nights,
Lying alone in your bed,
You’d hear footsteps on the stairs,
And cover up your head.

Alison he was your first,
You said he would be your last,
Alison does time heal the hurt,
Can you ever forget the past?
He hurt you he made you cry,
Are you sorry now that he’s gone?
They all come up and ask you why,
What do you say? Alison.

Now you spend your days in the park,
Too scared to venture home,
Creeping through the front door after dark,
Hoping you’ll be alone.
You search the house for drink,
In all his usual hiding places,
Why do you stay what do you think,
If he’s dry no more hidden faces?

Alison he was your first,
You said he would be your last,
Alison does time heal the hurt,
Can you ever forget the past?
He hurt you he made you cry,
Are you sorry now that he’s gone?
They all come up and ask you why,
What do you say? Alison.

You’re standing at the bottom of the bed,
The pillow still in your hand,
You’ll tell them that you loved him once,
Hope the magistrate understands.
When you’re sitting with no place to go,
The sun shining through the bars,
Nobody can take the smile off your face,
You’re free of him now. You are!

Alison he was your first,
You said he would be your last,
Alison does time heal the hurt,
Can you ever forget the past?
He hurt you he made you cry,
Are you sorry now that he’s gone?
They all come up and ask you why,
What do you say? Alison.
